
REALTORS®, your clients have until January 31, 2010 to
complete home improvements to qualify for the one-time, federal
government home renovation tax credit.
Home owners can claim a 15 per cent tax credit on eligible
expenses of at least $1,000 and not more than $10,000 spent
between January 28, 2009 and January 31, 2010.
The maximum deduction home owners can claim is $1,350 on
their 2009 tax return.
Eligible expenses include:
renovating a kitchen, bathroom or basement;
Windows and doors;
new flooring;
new furnace, boiler, fireplace, water heater;
electrical wiring;
new driveway or resurfacing;
shingles;
landscaping;
painting; and
additions - garage, storage, fencing.
Ineligible expenses include:
furniture and household appliances;
tools; and
carpet and house cleaning.
